Can a Child Give You a Happy Life ????

A few months ago some researchers from Denmark published a study demonstrating that childlessness in women is associated with a four-fold increased rate of death and a two-fold increased rate of death in men.
IVF is far and away the most common of the high-tech fertility treatments, accounting for more than 99 percent of all assisted reproductive technology procedures. About 48,000 IVF babies are born each year in the United States. In Vitro Fertilization is commonly referred to as IVF. IVF is the process of fertilization by manually combining an egg and sperm in a laboratory dish. When the IVF procedure is successful, the process is combined with a procedure known asembryo transfer, which involves physically placing the embryo in the uterus.
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) or Test-tube baby is a process in which eggs are taken out from woman's ovaries and then fertilized with sperms in a fluid medium in the laboratory. The fertilization procedure depends on semen parameters like sperm count, motility, morphology etc. Eggs are placed with motile sperm overnight in conventional IVF.

For women in whom first-line fertility treatments have been unsuccessful or who have other situations or conditions, in vitro fertilization (IVF) may be the treatment of choice. IVF was originally developed for women with tubal factor infertility (non-functioning fallopian tubes); however, because of major advances in in vitro fertilization, IVF is not always the treatment of last resort. In fact, it is often the first-line treatment.

IVF is often the treatment of choice for couples in who are experiencing male factor infertility, particularly with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), a procedure in which one sperm is injected directly into the egg.

There are some steps in IVF process which include the following:
  • Monitor and stimulate the development of healthy egg(s) in the ovaries.
  • Collect the eggs.
  • Secure the sperm.
  • Combine the eggs and sperm together in the laboratory and provide the appropriate environment for fertilization and early embryo growth.

Success rates

The success rate of IVF clinics depends on a number of factors including patient characteristics and treatment approaches.

30 to 35% for women under age 35
25% for women ages 35 to 37
15 to 20% for women ages 38 to 40
6 to 10% for women ages over 40

IVF success rates are the percentage of all IVF procedures which result in a favorable outcome. Depending on the type of calculation used, this outcome may represent the number of confirmed pregnancies, called the pregnancy rate or number of live births, called the live birth rate.
